University of Louisville soccer fans who turned the TV channel after the first half in the latest Battle of the Bluegrass would regret their decision. A UK lead was not all it was cut out to be, with UofL capping an incredible comeback at the horn with a 3-2 victory.
Providing the heroics for UofL was Giacomo Zizza, a junior midfielder from Denville, New Jersey, who would score two goals in the final eight minutes. His second goal zoomed into the net with seconds remaining.
A far different story in the second half, with Louisville overcoming a 2-0 deficit. Louisville came out firing, generating 16 shots after halftime compared to four from the Wildcats. Andrés Escudero Martín put the Cardinals on the board in the 56th minute, converting a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Zizza leveled the match in the 83rd minute, firing home his third goal of the season to make it 2-2. Just seven minutes later, Zizza found the back of the net again on a header assist from teammate Ryan Quintos.
Nathaniel Abramson made two saves in goal for Louisville to earn his second win of the season. The Cardinals are off to 2-0 start.
