California was the last program anyone expected to beat the University of Louisville football team this season. But as UofL Coach Jeff Brohm has repeatedly warned, every game is unpredictable. Comes down to the final play in overtime, with California on top 29-26.
A hard game to watch for UofL fans in the crowd of 51,381 at L&N Stadium. The Cardinals, ranked No. 15 in the nation, positioned perfectly for college football playoff consideration. All they needed to do was beat a mediocre California team, follow that up with three more wins, and they would be celebrating a program milestone.
Unfortunately, California wasn’t going to let that happen. The Golden Bears were chasing UofL quarterback Miller Moss all over the backfield, making difficult decisions all but possible. Unbelievably, he would catch two of his own passes while exposing his deficiencies. Is this the same person who threw six touchdown passes against Louisville in the 2023 Holiday Bowl? How could someone that good be so bad?
Most fans waiting until the bitter end, only to be rewarded with interminable delays getting out of the parking lot. As Jeff Brown keeps saying losses are supposed to sting, and everybody is infected.
After dashing to an impressive 7-1 won-lost record, the immediate future is suddenly a mine field with games against Clemson, Southern Methodist and Kentucky ahead. Clemson is Clemson, SMU will be tough in Dallas, and Kentucky has refused to wilt this season. The odds makers will not be kind to Louisville.
