Never good when three of a team’s top offensive players are struggling with injuries or roaming the sidelines. Bad things can happen.
The University of Louisville football team got one play from running back Isaac Brown, an 18-yard run on the opening play. That was it for the game. His high-powered backup Duke Watson would not get in the game. Wide receiver Chris Bell had four receptions but was playing through pain.
Fortunately it was not a conference game. The opponent was an undermanned Bowling Green team. Louisville would win 40-17 in front of 49,474 fans at L&N Stadium to improve its won-lost record to 3-0. A good record but not an impressive start to the 2025 season. The Cardinals apparently needed three no-name opponents to get ready for a challenging Atlantic Coast Conference part of the schedule.
Keyjuan Brown, a sophomore running back, was the next man up. Fully capable and ready to go, the three-star prospect from southern Alabama, would rush for 84 yards and two touchdowns in 12 carries. Caullin Lacy, coming off a season laden with his own injury, would contribute another one of those beautiful long runs, returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. UofL was up 21-3 at that point and clearly in charge.
Quarterback Miller Moss would complete 23 of 32 passes despite continuous pressure from the BGU defense. He was sacked three times. Would be nice to see him get back to throwing those long downfield passes like he did for Southern Cal a couple years ago. Remember those five touchdown passes? Impossible for diehards to forget.
“On offense, we made some plays that, once again, we had some penalties and some things that drove us back,” said UofL Coach Jeff Brohm. “We have to clean those up. It will never be perfect, but we have to find ways to be a little bit cleaner and a little bit sharper so that we can score points consistently and find ways to break some big plays.”
