Welcome back, college football. Especially the University of Louisville brand. The long long wait is over.

Perfect day for an opening day, the weather in mid-seventies for the most part. Packed parking lots of tailgaters, enjoying every minutes of every hour on the concrete. A really nice crowd for the home opener, some 50,536 on hand. All’s right in the Ville.

The UofL football with a warm welcome for the returning fans, marching 85 yards after the opening kickoff with running back Isaac Brown scoring his first touchdown of the season with a 31-yard jaunt. The Cardinals will follow that up with a 93-yard punt return by Caulin Lacy for a 14-0 lead and never look back in a dominating 51-17 win over Eastern Kentucky University.

Also making a great start is senior Louisville quarterback Miller Moss. He will complete 17 of 25 passing attempts for 231 yards. An impressive performance inspiring confidence in the minds and hearts of his fellow teammates and UofL fans. Coach Jeff Brohm has landed still another good one.

UofL racked up a total of 542 total yards on offense with six different players making their way into the end zone.

Isaac Brown ran for 126 yards on six attempts, including 31-yard and 68-yard rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Lacy’s 93-yard punt return was the second longest punt return in program history.

“Proud of our football team today,” said Brohm. “I thought we got off to a good start. We played some pretty good football in the first half. We did what we needed to move the ball and score points and be efficient when we needed to even when we got backed up with a couple silly penalties. The defense played really, really good. They did exactly what we needed to do.

“We were very physical up front, we were sound in our alignments. The communication was good and did a really good job. The first half was clean until the very end and then we had a couple turnovers that were costly. So I think overall, the second half we were playing a lot of new guys. We have to continue to push that forward and they have to know their time is coming up. I think that turnovers and penalties have to be cleaned up for us to progress and move forward. I do think we did what we needed to, we came ready to play and we did a pretty good job in the first half.”

Three more months of football and the outlook is good. Football is back. Couldn’t be happier.

Looks like the birthday girl got her wish, another University of Louisville football victory (Mike DeZarn photo).
