Senior weekend for the University of Louisville volleyball team, honoring young women who have made history and are looking for even greater milestones. Saying goodbye to some great four-year players in Anna DeBeer and Elena Scott, along with transfers Charitie Luper, Phekran Kong, and Sofia Diaz.
DeBeer and Scott have been around for an elite eight, two final fours and a national championship game during their time at UofL, taking the program to new heights with their mentor Coach Dani Busboom-Kelly. They have spent most of their Louisville career among the nation’s top 10 programs, including No. 1 ranking at times.
UofL’s success, along with the community’s support for volleyball, is a prime reason Louisville will be playing host to the NCAA volleyball championship finals in December at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings with a won-lost record of 23-3 overall and 15-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Momentum is on UofL’s side during the stretch run, having won six straight matches. Including two 3-0 sweeps over the weekend. The victims included Duke by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-10 and North Carolina by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-13.
