Louisville football benefacting benefits Virginia

Not a good way to start a game, losing the ball, giving up a 61-yard touchdown on the first series of downs.

That Miller Moss toss to running back Isaac Brown, the ball rolling around on the ground. Just too careless, too easy for a dangerous Virginia team.  One of at least two touchdowns that were outright gifts for the visitors in Louisville’s 30-27 overtime loss.

The 50,032 fans at L&N Stadium will remember this as a game that should have belonged to UofL. They saw a gifted quarterback in Miller Moss, who is just as prone to unbelievably questionable plays as good ones. He would match his first blunder in the third quarter, refusing to take a sack, throwing the ball directly to a Virginia defender for a 47-yard touchdown.

So it was in reality a Miller Moss vs. Miller Moss affair on this day. In the overtime, it was Moss’s across the body pass to Chris Bell that was not ruled an reception. Killing the drive, forcing Louisville to kick a field goal, opening the door for the game-winning touchdown for the Cavaliers.

It becomes obvious why Moss lost his starting position in his senior year at Southern California. A major challenge for Coach Jeff Brohm growing as the quality of the opposition gets better in conference play. Jeff and Miller have their work cut out for them.

Other than the questionable signal calling, it was obvious that UofL can compete with good teams. Wide receiver Chris Bell just keeps getting better and better, pulling down two touchdowns on Saturday. Louisville was clearly the better team in this game. Big deal, doesn’t matter, doesn’t count in the wins and losses column.

Is that third-ranked Miami looming directly ahead?
