A good win over a determined foe.
Excellent win for the University of Louisville basketball team over a feisty, never-let-up Texas El-Paso team. Bringing with them an intimidating reputation as the nation’s leading turnover-forcing machine. Forcing turnovers was their modus operandi.
Wasn’t going to happen this night, the Cardinals were prepared. Not in the mood for an upset. If anything, Louisville was the scrappier team, forcing UTEP into 15 turnovers while losing the ball only 11 times. UofL earned a hard-fought 77-74 win over the Miners in front of a crowd of 11,668 at the KFC Yum! Center.
Terrence Edwards came off the Louisville bench to lead all scorers with 22 points, connecting on six of 13 shots, including two 3-pointers. Equally significant were double-double nights by Y’vonne Hadley and Terrence Edwards . Hadley with 13 points and 13 rebounds, Edwards with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Miners had no quit in them, but neither did the Cardinals, exerting control when they needed to seal the win. The visitors had the best 3-point shooter in the country in Ahamad Bynum. He made good on four of five shots beyond the arc on Wednesday night and scored 14 points. Fortunately he did not have the ball when time expired Wednesday night.
