Lots of changes during the off season for both the University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball programs. So many new faces, so many who moved on, almost too many to keep track of for the average fan. Separating a face from the crowd becomes a challenge to overcome.

That is unless a player happens to shoot the lights out like Imari Berry has been doing the past two games. She went off for 21 points in the UofL women’s 107-70 win over Morehead State. Magnificent first impression for the crowd of 7,344 at the KFC Yum! Center.

Berry, who hails from Clarksville, Tenn., had a remarkable high school career. She was, in fact, Ms. Tennessee Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year during her senior year.  She was also a finalist for Ms. Tennessee Basketball during her sophomore and junior seasons. As a five star prospect, she also led Clarksville to an undefeated regular season during her senior year. She chose Louisville over North Carolina and Kentucky.

She was just doing her thing against Morehead State.  She made five of eight shots from behind the 3-point line, 8 of 12 from field, to lead all scorers.  The five 3-pointers in a game are the most by a Louisville freshman since the 2020-21 season. She has scored in double figures in three straight games and has led the Cards in scoring in each of the last two games. She was also credited with four assists and three rebounds.

Isla Juffermans, a freshman from Coffs Habor, Australia, also was making her presence felt, with 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting, four rebounds and an assist in just over 17 minutes. Jajianna Roberts, another freshman, scored in double figures for the fifth-straight game with  11 points, including three three-pointers.

Next stop for the Cardinals is at South Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the Peacock network.
