
The University of Louisville will have 12 current and former student athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics, for 10 different nations. Eight UofL swimmers have qualified for Paris, as well as one athlete each in diving, track & field, men’s basketball, and men’s golf. Competition officially begins on July 27. Six of the Cardinals participated in NCAA competition during the past year, including Denis Loktev (swimming), Denis Petrashov (swimming), Else Praasterink (diving), Murilo Sartori (swimming), Ilia Sibirtsev (swimming), and Jayden Ulrich (track & field). Others:
- Carlik Jones, a 2021 graduate of UofL, will make his Olympic debut in men’s basketball for South Sudan against Puerto Rico on July 28.
- Former men’s golfer Matthias Schmid, who left Louisville in 2020, will also make his first appearance for Germany at the Olympic Games on August 1.
- Jayden Ulrich, the first United States Olympian in Louisville track & field program history, will compete in the preliminary round of the women’s discus throw on August 2.
- Else Praasterink represents UofL in the women’s 10m platform diving competition. The preliminary and semifinal rounds are scheduled for August 5.
