The opening game of the NCAA tournament always seems to be a bit shaky for even the best of teams. Much on the line, everything to lose, evoking some lots of uncertainty and tightness, sometimes leading to some unpredictable outcomes.
That didn’t seem to be the case for Mackenly Randolph, a sophomore on the University of Louisville women’s basketball in the opening round. She exuded confidence, someone who can be counted on, leading all scorers with 20 points while picking off 11 rebounds. She was all smiles after Louisville’s 72-52 win over Vermont in front of a crowd of 5,895 at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday.
The daughter of former NBA all-star Zach Randolph was a calming presence in the first half, with the Cardinals managing a four-point lead at the intermission. Her 20 points was a career high and her double-double was her fourth in the last five games. And she is the seventh UofL player to score 20 points in a game this season.
Tajianna Roberts scored 12 points and team-best four assists and two steals. She leads the team with 24 double-digit scoring games this season. Laura Ziegler added 12 points of her own with seven boards. Imari Berry added 10 points.
